About Mary Brust

Mary Brust

Mary Brust came to horse training somewhat later in life, having ridden most of her life, but not always regularly. She attended Brown Ledge Camp, in Colchester, Vermont, and the Putney School in Putney, Vermont and later attended UVM, before moving to Montana and then overseas.

She met Chris and Andrea in 2001, when she’d returned to the US and just as she was considering a career change, While initially trained in hunt seat, she has refocused her efforts onto dressage and eventing, and she trains regularly with Denny Emerson, Lindle Sutton and John Bourgoin.  She has also taken lessons with Jane Sleeper, Scott Keach, Lucinda Green and Eric Smiley.  She has trained horses through Preliminary level and has fox hunted throughout Vermont.  In 2013 she completed the Waredaca Farm Classic Training 3 Day event with Spiderman, her young Thoroughbred.

Originally trained as a classroom teacher, most important to her riding and teaching style now is matching horse and rider and creating an independent sense of balance and a greater sense of confidence. When she’s not riding, she races sailboats, hikes, teaches classical Indian dance and travels.  Mary lives in Burlington with her dog Torpedo.
